Poor oral hygiene is the root cause of swollen gums
When a person suffers from swollen gums, this indicates that the gums surrounding the teeth are infected. Protrusions in the gum line will be very evident giving discomfort and pain. It can also affect a person’s life because of the difficulty swollen gums can bring. That is why most people are looking for ways on how to solve such dilemma.
The root cause of swollen gums is the bacteria in the mouth. It is normal for the mouth to have bacterial formations but an uncontrollable accumulation of bacterial formation in the mouth causes infection and irritation to the gums. When the bacteria start to attack, it penetrates the areas between the teeth and the gum line making a hole in gingival pockets where they assemble and grow rapidly which will then develop to swollen gums. A person must always perform the proper oral hygiene to get rid of these harmful bacteria preventing any further damages.
A person with such infection always asks how oral hygiene affects swollen gums. The first thing they do in the quest to keep the teeth clean is to brush the teeth as vigorously as they can to remove the problem. Gums are made of sensitive tissue that is why brushing it the wrong way can damage them. Toothbrush with soft nylon bristles must be used so that it will not irritate the gums. Medium or hard bristles can damage the enamel on the teeth or cause red and swollen gums. Brushing in a circular motion is highly recommended to massage the clean the teeth and gums.
Flossing is very important to achieve optimum dental health. It helps remove plaques from the mouth where the toothbrush can’t reach. To make sure that such procedure won’t cause any swelling or bleeding on the gums, one must be gentle in flossing. Instead of forcing the floss between your teeth, one can carefully slide it up and down, following the curve of each tooth.
Mouthwashes and rinses are also one of the important steps in oral hygiene. These can help eliminate bacteria left in the mouth and bad breath. One must also be careful in choosing the mouthwash because each and every one have different effects on the mouth. Some side effects of mouthwash result in a more staining of teeth than with a sodium fluoride control dentifrice. Some even have serious side effects like cancer risk, tissue damage, ulcers in the mouth, abnormal increase in number of cells and black hairy tongue syndrome. One can ask from the dentist to help which mouthwash and rinses is best for their mouth.
