Causes of Receding Gums
Receding gums is the unfortunate process where the gum tissue that surrounds the teeth slowly but gradually begins to wear away in the direction of the gum root. Some people mistakenly think that this is because of genes or other external factors, but little do they know, it is simply a sign of one gum disease or the other.
When a person experiences this for the first time, he may begin to wonder what has caused this and how he can prevent it from worsening. The teeth becomes a lot more sensitive to cold or too-warm food, causing one to wince in discomfort when eating ice cream or enjoying hot soup.
In the case of receding gums, a gap usually forms between the teeth and gum line, and this becomes easily observable as the upper or lower teeth begin to appear elongated and the hidden part of the tooth is revealed gradually. Pockets may also form, resulting in easier ways for bacteria to build and fester on it. Receding gums is a clear sign of a deeper, underlying gum issue, as if it is left untreated the teeth and its supporting gum line can be damaged.
Tooth loss is one of the terrible aftermath of receding gums. The person experiencing this usually wants to get rid of it, and will try a whole number of ways just to reverse the receding gums. Unfortunately, no other treatment so far is able to repair back the damaged gum tissue as of late. All one can do is make sure that the bacteria causing receding gums is eliminated.
If you are experiencing this specific gum problem, try visiting your dentist as soon as possible. They will be able to cater to your needs and look in to your receding gum problem and will be able to tell you what the best steps to make in order to help your gums get back into health.
Until then, it is best to continue to watch out against plaque or tartar, which heightens the number of bacteria in your mouth and destroys the tissues. Brush your teeth every day but avoid aggressive brushing as this may also be the cause for advancement of the gum recession problem. Once you book an appointment to your dentist, you can now ask if you can have dental check-up and cleaning. Only a dentist will get you the cleanest smile and the healthiest gums and teeth.
